Traject is an independent mobility consultancy with offices in Brussels and Ghent. It helps companies, public authorities and project developers cut car dependency: commuting diagnostics and company travel plans, green car and charging policies, parking policies, mobility budgets and cycling and walking plans.
About Traject
Traject Mobility Management has advised on mobility for 30 years and says it has carried out thousands of projects, large and small, in that time. It has offices at Cantersteen in Brussels and on the Eedverbondkaai in Ghent. The team brings together mobility experts, urban planners, economists, behaviour specialists and geographers, and calls itself a change manager: the aim is to move from a mental shift to a modal shift. Its work is grouped in seven themes: cities and municipalities, mobility budget, mobility and spatial planning, electric mobility, company mobility, cycling and walkability. For companies, projects include green car policies for VAB and Immoweb, a parking policy for RTBF, a charging point roll-out policy for BNP and company travel plans in Brussels. As an approved consultancy, it also writes the mobility part of impact studies and municipal mobility plans, such as the Forest plan under Brussels' Good Move. Clients shown on its website include BNP Paribas Fortis, Mediahuis, Fluvius, VUB, Bruxelles Environnement and Slim naar Antwerpen. Through the Traject Academy, it trains professionals for organisations such as Bruxelles Environnement, the Walloon public service and VIVES university college.

A green car and charging policy to electrify the VAB fleet
VAB was electrifying its vehicle fleet and asked Traject to help set the strategy and answer the questions the switch raised. Traject ran a workshop with the fleet manager, the mobility manager, HR and finance to set the ambition and the pillars of the new policy: the charging offer for employees, the link with the mobility budget, buying versus leasing. It then wrote the car policy and the charging policy, defined the vehicle offer and built a TCO model. To bring employees along, it ran a survey on their concerns and interest in electric cars, provided an FAQ and helped organise information sessions. For implementation, a benchmark of market players helped VAB choose its partner for charging infrastructure and charging cards.

A parking policy that nudges staff towards other modes
A site redevelopment in the Brussels Region forced the RTBF to rethink its parking policy. Its staff have very diverse jobs and schedules, but a large share live in Brussels and could, to some extent, do without a parking space at work. With the company, Traject designed a policy based on a booking system with a limited number of parking accesses. It ended the named spaces reserved for management and the first-come, first-served logic. Because access to the car park is limited, employees were strongly encouraged to rethink how they travel and organise their work.
