The New Drive is an independent Belgian consultancy in sustainable mobility, accessibility and charging infrastructure. It helps companies, public authorities and network organisations introduce the mobility budget, green their fleet, roll out EV charging and get employees out of the car, from the first scan to implementation.
About The New Drive
The New Drive is a strategic mobility consultancy whose mission is to make Belgium more accessible and cleaner, under the motto 'Samen België schoner maken'. It has been involved in electric mobility, shared mobility and Flanders' transport regions from the start, and calls itself a 'translation agency' that bridges policy and business. Its consultants specialise in electric mobility, sustainable mobility, accessibility and logistics. With its Dutch sister company APPM, which has offices in Germany and the United States, it brings international practice to Belgian projects. Its references since 2016 include Elia Group, KBC, De Lijn, Intervest, Jessa Ziekenhuis, Brussels Mobility, Brussels Environment, the Flemish Department of Mobility and Public Works, Fietsberaad Vlaanderen and many cities and provinces. It built the TCO web tools for Brussels and Flanders. The New Drive works for companies, public authorities and network organisations, from Quick Scans and policy plans to charging-infrastructure tenders and staff training. Internally it follows the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and 80% of its suppliers have committed to them.

BAM InterbuildConstruction
Using an office move to change how employees commute
In August 2021 the Antwerp construction firm BAM Interbuild moved from its old site in Wilrijk to the Post X business complex next to Antwerpen-Berchem station. The move raised many questions, especially for employees who depended on their car. The New Drive ran a Quick Scan of company mobility to map the existing policy and offer, and compared the accessibility of the old and new sites. With a MaaS provider, it introduced a mobility app so employees could leave the car and come by bike or train, and with Slim naar Antwerpen it arranged a trial offer of company bikes and public transport. The two then worked together to anchor sustainable mobility in the company's policy.

Rolling out EV charging on a shopping-centre car park
Maasmechelen Village received more and more requests from customers and partners for charging points, and its 2 existing chargers could no longer keep up with the growing share of EVs. The New Drive led the subsidy application to the Flemish Department of Mobility and Public Works (CPT call 2021), which was approved. It ran a co-creation workshop on the strategic choices, built a business case with charging-session forecasts and sensitivity analyses on charging tariffs, and prepared, launched and assessed a request for proposals. With Creteq it carried out an independent electrical check of the 2 shortlisted charge point operators before selection, and it helped the site show compliance with The Bicester Collection's EV charging standard.

From a parking problem to a supported mobility plan
Hasselt University had a mobility problem on its Hasselt and Diepenbeek campuses, first described simply as a lack of parking. The New Drive started with a Quick Scan to map the situation and set a baseline for measuring future measures. It then ran a co-creative process with a steering group, staff and students, shifting the question from 'a parking problem' to 'how can I change my own behaviour'. The long list of ideas was narrowed to 25 measures through working sessions, then prioritised on four criteria: impact on modal shift, investment cost, delivery time and complexity.
A zero-emission mobility policy for the city of Leuven
After policy changes, including the Flemish government's revised ambitions under Clean Power for Transport, the city of Leuven needed a clear vision on zero-emission mobility. The New Drive supported the city in developing a new policy vision for the next term, looking ahead to 2030. In three steps it set the outline through co-creative working sessions with the core team, drafted a concept version, and aligned it with the core team into a final vision on electric mobility, covering policy measures, ambitions, charging infrastructure, target groups and financial questions.
