Project Nekton is a Belgian lighting and smart building integrator, based in Kontich near Antwerp, that cuts the electricity companies spend on lighting in offices, warehouses, car parks and care homes. It runs the whole project with its own installation team, from light study and financing to installation, monitoring and maintenance.
About Project Nekton
Project Nekton took its current name in May 2021, when lighting specialist Cédric Genbrugge, who started as a light designer at Philips and later led international sales for Belgian manufacturer ZUMI, joined S&G Projects, the electrical installation company of brothers Stéphane and Guy Van den Bogaert. From Kontich, near Antwerp, the team designs and installs lighting and smart building projects across Belgium for offices, logistics, industry, retail, sport, hospitality, care and education, with its own in-house installers rather than subcontractors. It works with Signify Interact and NatureConnect (as an official Signify partner), Casambi, Dynalite and the Trigrr building operating system, and counts Brussels Airport, Alstom, Unilin, Befimmo, Securex, Bank Van Breda and UITP among its clients. Every client gets one contact person and a fixed project price, and circularity is built into the offer: at the end of a Light as a Service contract, fixtures are reused, moved to another site or taken over. Project Nekton is a member of Vlaanderen Circulair, Voka and Unizo, and takes part in the Voka ScaleUp programme.

What Project Nekton has delivered
Steinweg BelgiumPort logistics
Lighting a 23,500 m² cocoa warehouse only where people work
Steinweg Belgium stores cocoa beans in a 23,500 m² warehouse in the port of Antwerp, with many aisles that see little activity. Project Nekton installed 280 LED high-bay fixtures linked to 33 sensors, so the light only stays on in zones where people are working and dims automatically in empty aisles. Casambi wireless control lets the team adjust light levels in real time, without giving up visibility or safety.
Van Moer Logistics runs large multimodal warehouses in the port of Antwerp. After a light study, Project Nekton installed 546 high-performance LED high-bays with 70 Beg Luxomat sensors, managed through Casambi Bluetooth Low Energy wireless control. Lights only switch on in zones where activity is detected, and levels can be adjusted in real time to keep good visibility and safety day and night.
Relighting three warehouses without touching the trunking
Asogem stores white goods in three warehouses in Mechelen covering 16,400 m², lit by 393 T5 fluorescent fittings (2×80 W) and 18 motion sensors. After a light study and ROI analysis, Project Nekton replaced all 393 fittings with LED fixtures that fit the existing trunking, and swapped the underperforming detectors for 19 new motion sensors on a redesigned layout. Keeping the trunking kept costs down, with an expected payback of 4 years and 4 months.
Over 200,000 kWh saved a year, with no upfront investment
At Etion's head office in Wilrijk, Project Nekton assessed more than 1,000 fittings, mapping old consumption and dark spots, and drew up a light study that brought light levels in line with the standard. Every fixture got its own sensor for motion and daylight, linked through Signify Interact wireless modules, which avoided the cost of extra control cabling. The savings equal almost 40 t of CO₂ a year. Financing came through Jade Synergies as a 10-year OPEX lease whose monthly payments are lower, net, than Etion's previous energy and maintenance costs, with no prefinancing.
From lights on day and night to 80% savings in an underground car park
In Indigo's underground car park on Diestsestraat in Leuven, the lights burned day and night, even when there was hardly any traffic. Indigo wanted to cut consumption without compromising user safety or CCTV. Project Nekton first replaced the fittings with LED, then added motion sensors and a night mode that dims the light to 20% when nobody is around, enough for safety and cameras. A remote monitoring platform now shows real-time consumption and the health of the installation, so maintenance can be planned from usage data.
Smart office lighting in a renovation with little room for new cabling
UITP, the international public transport association, renovated its Brussels offices in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, where new cabling was hardly an option. Project Nekton ran a light study and ROI analysis, set a lighting strategy per zone based on use and daylight, and installed dynamic LED lighting with presence detection, daylight control and wireless connectivity (Signify Interact), working with interior architect Space Refinery. The wireless network can later be extended with energy monitoring, data analysis and predictive maintenance.
“Project Necton heeft fantastisch werk geleverd met de installatie van onze LED-verlichting. Het team was professioneel en efficiënt, met minimale verstoring van onze werkzaamheden. Bovendien hielpen ze ons perfect bij het indienen van subsidies. Zeer tevreden en absoluut een aanrader!”
Jeroen Van Diest,Tops Foods
“Naast het realiseren van een behoorlijke energiebesparing en het verbeteren van het comfortniveau, is het project ook uitgevoerd met een uitstekende naleving van de afspraken.”
Roy Van den Wyngaert,Etion
“Duidelijke communicatie, hulpvaardigheid en bijstand in alle fasen van het project en uitvoering binnen de afgesproken termijn.”
