AYA is a Belgian team of 35 Energy Managers who act as an outsourced energy task force for companies. They take charge of energy contracts, on-site assets, PPAs and flexibility as one system, to cut costs, keep budgets predictable and lower CO₂.
About AYA
AYA is an independent energy advisory and procurement firm for industrial energy users in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. It was founded as Zero Emission Solutions by Alexandre Indekeu and Louis Langerock, and took the name AYA when three investors joined: SPDG D'Ieteren, the Vlerick Group and Bruno Vanderschueren. The team of 35 Energy Managers works from Brussels and Aalst and brings more than 15 years of market experience and over 1 GW of delivered solutions. AYA works for 130 industrial clients and is adding more than 140 MW of batteries. Its Energy Managers join the client's team and share responsibility for results, following one method: Model, Roll-out, Operate. The offer covers five connected areas: energy roadmap, energy assets, PPAs, energy contracts and flexibility, with a profit-sharing model on assets. References include Decathlon, MIVB-STIB, Shurgard, Lhoist, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, water-link and AZORG. AYA is a certified B Corp.

MIVB-STIBPublic transport
A five-year wind PPA covering 20% of high-voltage consumption
The Brussels public transport company wants an all-electric bus fleet by 2035, so its power needs will keep growing. Its energy was already 100% renewable through guarantees of origin and rooftop solar, but it wanted local green power at a price less exposed to the market. AYA developed the procurement strategy, found the producer, Aspiravi, and guided the contract as an independent advisor between buyer and producer. Since April 2023, MIVB buys 100% of the power from new wind farms in Pelt, Ruddervoorde and Wervik. The deal was closed within a few months, despite the constraints of a public tender.
Strategy, a solar PPA and contract follow-up for Decathlon's Belgian stores
As a member of RE100, Decathlon is committed to 100% renewable electricity. In Belgium, about 35% of the capacity it needs already came from solar panels on its stores, but energy kept getting more complex. AYA drew up the strategy, looked at off-site renewable options and negotiated an off-site PPA: five years of solar power from a site in Belgium, at a fixed price that does not follow the market. AYA also runs Decathlon's click strategy for its traditional supply, handles contract negotiations and invoice follow-up, and consolidates the energy data, with one Energy Manager as the permanent contact.

Shurgard runs self-storage sites in the UK, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden, Belgium and Denmark. It had clear climate targets but needed a plan that worked across different energy markets with limited internal resources. AYA built an energy roadmap that ranks measures by impact and return: efficiency, gas heating replaced by heat pumps, on-site solar, batteries where the business case holds, then PPAs and guarantees of origin for the remaining grid power. AYA then moved to execution in the UK: technical specifications, competitive bidding among installers, follow-up of the works and on-site inspections before approval.
From audits on three hospital campuses to a group PPA
The energy crisis doubled A.S.Z.'s energy costs. The hospital already had projects running (relighting, internal monitoring, solar panels, new windows) but wanted a partner from A to Z, not a one-off audit. AYA audited its three campuses in Aalst, Geraardsbergen and Wetteren, which gave quick wins such as replacing circulation pumps as well as long-term plans. It supports the EPC obligation for non-residential buildings, studies how many PV panels the sites can take and, on that basis, the right external PPA for the whole group, all fitted into the existing energy contract.

An energy strategy for a care campus heading for climate neutrality
OPZ Geel, a public psychiatric care centre with 250 residential beds and 75 beds in psychiatric care homes, has anchored sustainability in its master plan 'OPZ Geel wordt OPZ Groen'. Faced with a volatile energy market, it asked AYA for a strategy that combines on-site renewable production, PPAs and better traditional energy contracts. The AYA platform gives it a view of energy flows, the actual cost per MWh and the savings made. The next steps are electrifying heating with heat pumps, covering that demand with green electricity and possibly using the heat pumps on the flexibility market.

An 18% lower pricing formula through a public electricity and gas tender
An intermunicipal utility that buys energy for several public partners had to secure new electricity and gas contracts for 2027–2029. It had to follow a transparent public procedure, its existing contract structure limited price competition, and it needed more room to use market opportunities without unmanaged risk. AYA supported the whole public tender: technical specifications, price formulas and market timing, all within defined risk limits.

From a spot-indexed contract back to a predictable budget
An operator of several event and exhibition venues had an electricity contract indexed to spot prices, which made budgeting hard and put pressure on internal decisions. The goal: less price risk without giving up its sustainability commitments. AYA organised a structured tender, used scenario-based market timing and redesigned the contract to balance price and budget certainty. Supply stays fully covered by European guarantees of origin, and the organisation now has a clear decision framework shared by finance and operations.
A contract renewal that makes room for PV and batteries
A transport company was extending its PV and adding battery storage while its electricity contract was about to end. Prices were no longer competitive, there was no clear hedging strategy and too little time to run a tender alone. AYA managed the tender, optimised market timing with scenario modelling and restructured the contract to fit the upcoming assets, with hedging advice matched to the company's risk profile.
“We were looking for a party that thinks along with us in terms of strategy, sustainability and innovation. AYA ticked off all those priorities. Based on our needs, they outlined the strategy.”
Michiel Goetschalckx,Construction & Energy Manager, Decathlon
“Working with AYA is also an absolute added value for us. They have a large network of partners. In a few months, we were able to conclude an agreement, not evident in the context of a public tender.”
Thibaut Van Vyve,Asset Manager Energy, MIVB
“In terms of management costs, this is a huge reassurance. In addition, thanks to the sustainable partnership with AYA, we know that we will always continue to play the most energy-efficient card.”
Sara Coppin,Environmental Coordinator & Prevention Advisor, A.S.Z.
“Maximising renewable energy On-site contributes to our CO₂ savings as well as being a hedge on our future energy costs.”
Niels Van Gansen,Director of Infrastructure & ICT, OPZ Geel
