21 Solutions is a Brussels sustainability consultancy that helps companies and public bodies set up and run environmental management systems, carbon footprints and certifications such as EMAS, ISO 14001 or B Corp. It also designs participatory processes, so that staff and stakeholders carry the change.
About 21 Solutions
21 Solutions was founded in Brussels in 2008, with the aim of helping organisations and citizens contribute to sustainable development, starting with the places around them. Its offices are on the Marché aux Herbes, a few steps from the Grand-Place, and its projects take it across Belgium and Europe. The multilingual team brings together architecture, history, social sciences, engineering and environmental management. It works in four areas: ESG strategy and environmental and circular management, participatory processes, public policies and strategies, and heritage studies. 21 Solutions says it has supported or audited more than a hundred public and private organisations in setting up an environmental or sustainability management system, from public administrations to a chocolate maker, hotels, collective catering, events, sports centres, hospitals and construction firms. Since 2014 it has been part of the EMAS Helpdesk consortium working for the European Commission's DG Environment, and it supports European bodies such as the European Banking Authority, ESMA, EIOPA, the European Court of Auditors and the European External Action Service. The company holds the Label Entreprise Écodynamique (3 stars) and is going through the B Corp audit.
What 21 Solutions has delivered
UWE (Union wallonne des entreprises)Industrial SMEs
Bringing 8 Walloon SMEs to ISO 14001 or EMAS in a shared programme
With the Environment Unit of the UWE, 21 Solutions supported eight Walloon companies in setting up an environmental management system that meets ISO 14001:2015 and EMAS, between January 2021 and December 2022. The firms came from very different sectors: biscuits, brewing, materials processing, construction, resin production, insulation solutions, pipe laying and a sheltered workshop. The programme mixed collective workshops on the key steps of an EMS with individual coaching through site visits and video calls, and shared practical tools such as an environmental aspects register, a carbon calculator and an audit template. Participants were trained as internal auditors through cross-audits between companies, which prepared them for their external certification audits.
Transmoove and NNOF (PMC Holding)Office furniture & workplace services
Extending EMAS and ISO 14001 to a whole circular furniture business
21 Solutions has supported the companies of PMC Holding since 2011. Transmoove moves, repairs, stores and manages office furniture with maximum reuse, and NNOF designs sustainable office layouts. In 2017 Transmoove asked 21 Solutions to extend its ISO 14001 and EMAS certification to all its activities; better organisation and breaking down silos between departments improved many environmental impacts. 21 Solutions added a quality approach (ISO 9001:2015) and updated the Bilan Carbone®, which also showed the savings from the good practices already in place. The two companies have since won several innovation and environment awards, including a European EMAS Award and the Belgian Business Awards for the Environment.
European External Action Service (EEAS)European institutions
Three years to EMAS registration for the EU's diplomatic service
Since 2023, in a consortium with Arcadis and Comase, 21 Solutions has helped the European External Action Service set up an EMAS / ISO 14001 environmental management system for its Brussels headquarters and its delegations around the world, together with its carbon footprint and internal audits. Its role was to bring the Green Team of key headquarters departments on board, equip and train administration managers and environmental correspondents in the delegations (first through a pilot, now gradually extended to all delegations), support environmental governance with the EEAS Environment Steering Committee, and audit internally. The EEAS obtained its EMAS registration in July 2026.
