Yuso

Energy & BuildingsScope 2

Yuso is a green electricity supplier and energy optimiser based in Waregem. It steers companies' batteries and solar panels on the day-ahead and imbalance markets in real time, so they stop paying to inject at negative prices and earn extra income from the flexibility they give the grid.

About Yuso

Yuso was founded in 2012 in Waregem by Bart Pycke and Michel Verschuere, who leads the company today. It started by buying solar power from companies and reached 100 MWp of solar purchase contracts by 2014. In 2016 it steered its first large battery, a 10 MW grid battery in Zeeland, and in 2017 it became a 100% green B2B electricity supplier in Belgium. Yuso then helped bring the first wave of large batteries to Belgium, including the 50 MW / 100 MWh Deux-Acren battery park with Corsica Sole in 2022, and entered the UK and, in 2025, Estonia and Lithuania. Since 2021 it has applied the same trading know-how to batteries behind the meter of Belgian and Dutch businesses, and in 2024 it launched PV curtailment on imbalance prices. Yuso holds the licences of supplier, BRP, BSP, Scheduling Agent, Outage Planning Agent and Voltage Service Provider, and is a Flexibility Service Provider in Fluvius' Short Flex scheme. It reports 1.2 GW of assets under management and is ranked among the top 5 optimisers in Europe in Enact's independent ranking. Recent projects include GIGA Giraffe in Amsterdam, the first 4-hour battery in the Netherlands, and Hertz 1 in Estonia, the largest battery operating in the Baltics.

What Yuso has delivered

Pelkmans-VervoortPoultry farming

Turning cheap solar injection into imbalance income

The Pelkmans-Vervoort family raises 195,000 chicks in four sheds in Turnhout and has 398 kWp of solar panels on the roofs. In 2024 the average injection price was only €40/MWh, which made the latest solar extension hard to justify. With an Octave battery installed by Eco Technics at the end of 2023 and steered by Yuso, the farm adds imbalance income to its solar injection and gets money back on its energy bill instead of paying. Since 1 March 2025 Yuso also steers the solar inverters (PV curtailment), switching them off when imbalance prices are very negative.

Casteleyn T.R.S.Construction waste recycling

Curtailing solar output only when injecting really costs money

At its recycling site in Tielt, Casteleyn T.R.S. turns demolition waste into granulates for road building. Its crushing and screening plant used to run on heating oil; today 1,200 solar panels (432 kWp) power the site and often produce more than it needs. Since April 2025 Yuso steers the installation on two prices, day-ahead and imbalance, so output is curtailed only when injecting really costs money and every quarter hour with a positive price is used. Because the site's offtake is also with Yuso, production, consumption and injection are steered together. On Easter Monday 2026, when the Belgian imbalance price fell to -15,000 EUR/MWh, the steering adjusted production at the right moment and the company recorded an exceptionally strong month.

  • No more injecting at negative prices
  • Curtailment based on both day-ahead and imbalance prices
  • Exceptionally strong profit month around Easter Monday 2026
  • Next step under study: a battery of at least 0.5 MW for solar storage and peak shaving

Jef AdriaensenGreenhouse horticulture

A greenhouse battery that earns most on the imbalance market

Jef Adriaensen grows strawberries on 5.5 hectares of greenhouses in Hoogstraten, with pumps, LED lighting and heating that draw a lot of power. A 150 kWp solar installation feeds an Octave battery installed by Eco Technics in 2024, used both for self-consumption at night and for Yuso's imbalance steering. Energy is bought at the lowest cost and surplus solar power is sold on the imbalance market. In the Yuso Inside portal, imbalance clearly shows up as the battery's main source of income, ahead of self-consumption.

  • Imbalance income that makes the electricity bill negative in most months
  • Imbalance steering is the battery's main revenue source
  • Solar power stored by day for use at night

Joris BVGrain and fertiliser trading

A 4 MWh battery sized to the site's 1 MW grid connection

Joris BV in Mielen trades more than 30,000 tonnes of grain a year and stores potatoes and fertiliser in large warehouses. The site has a 1 MW grid connection, and upgrading it to 2 MW was very expensive. With Solarys Energy, Koen Joris installed two battery containers of more than 4 MWh in total, sized to that 1 MW connection so the battery's full capacity can be used at the right moments. Yuso steers the battery, next to a 377 kWp solar installation, partly for self-consumption and largely on the imbalance market.

GIGA StorageUtility-scale storage

Route to market for the first 4-hour battery in the Netherlands

GIGA Giraffe, built by GIGA Storage in Amsterdam Westhaven, is a 10 MW / 47 MWh battery, the first 4-hour battery in the Netherlands. Connected to the Liander grid to provide flexibility services to TenneT, it stores renewable energy and feeds it back when demand peaks. As route-to-market partner, Yuso runs the operational management and optimisation of the battery's capacity. It was inaugurated on 17 October 2025.

Hertz 1 (Mirova, Evecon, Corsica Sole)Utility-scale storage

Operating the largest battery in the Baltics

Hertz 1 in Kiisa, Estonia, is a 100 MW / 200 MWh battery co-owned by Mirova, Evecon and Corsica Sole, inaugurated on 3 February 2026. It is the largest battery energy storage system operating in the Baltic region, which has just joined the Continental Europe synchronous area. Yuso operates and optimises the system for frequency regulation, automatic and manual frequency reserves and wholesale energy arbitrage, supporting grid stability and security of supply.

What customers say

“Ik doe de boekhouding en ik moet toegeven dat ik eerst sceptisch was over de investering in een batterij. Maar sinds we telkens geld verdienen in plaats van betalen voor onze energiefactuur, ben ik ervan overtuigd dat we de juiste beslissing genomen hebben!”
Nathalie Van Heule,Licht & Elektro Bossuyt, Kuurne
“Aangezien dit onze eerste stappen waren in hernieuwbare energie, vonden we het een grote meerwaarde dat we ons niet meteen voor meerdere jaren moesten verbinden. De flexibiliteit die Yuso biedt, is voor ons een echte troef.”
Kristof Bultynck,Head of Purchasing, Bio-Dynamics
