Revalio

Waste & CircularScope 3

Revalio is a Belgian water engineering firm that helps industrial sites use less water, treat complex wastewater and reuse more of it, from smart metering to design, build and day-to-day operation. It is not tied to any equipment vendor.

About Revalio

Revalio's story began in Antarctica, with the design of a new water treatment and reuse system for Princess Elisabeth, Belgium's polar research station. The team now brings that experience to industrial sites in Belgium and France, from offices in Brussels and Namur, and works with Zoetis, Safran, Thales, Aperam, Prayon and dsm-firmenich among others. Revalio covers the whole path, from smart metering, lab tests and feasibility studies to design, build and operation, and stays independent of technology suppliers so each site gets the equipment that fits it best. It works with Shayp for real-time water monitoring and leak detection.

What Revalio has delivered

DelkaFood industry

Halving the water used to clean a sauce factory

Delka makes over 400 sauce recipes at Petit-Rechain, near Liège, and every recipe change means a full clean of the equipment, about 80% of the site's water. Revalio fitted flow meters on every emulsifier and on the main lines, connected to the Shayp platform to follow water use per kg of sauce in real time. A water audit then reworked the cleaning cycles (chemistry, temperature, timing), automated them, checked spray ball pressure and proposed an external CIP system that reuses intermediate rinse water for pre-rinsing. AI leak detection now sends SMS alerts, and rainwater from 5,560 m² of roof could cover up to 30% of the site's needs.

International Polar FoundationResearch station

Reusing half the wastewater of a station in Antarctica

Princess Elisabeth Antarctica, Belgium's polar research station, had a water system designed for 16 people that now had to serve up to 50 at peak times. Revalio designed and built a new treatment system that fits a tight indoor space and extreme conditions: biological treatment of black and grey water, nanofiltration and oxidation up to drinking-grade quality, reuse of treated water for washing and cleaning, and sludge drying. Predictive automation limits manual work, and Revalio supports the crew remotely during the season.

AdvachemChemicals

Replacing mains water with treated canal water

Advachem, a tailor-made chemistry plant in Hautrage, paid a high price for the mains water feeding its cooling towers and boilers, while the Nimy-Blaton-Péronnes canal ran next to the site. As owner's engineer, Revalio monitored canal water quality across seasons, showed that a dedicated pre-treatment upstream of the existing ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis could replace mains water, and compared two scenarios on investment, running costs and return. It then wrote the tender specifications, ranked the integrators' offers on a multi-criteria grid and supports construction and operation.

  • Far less mains water used for industrial cooling
  • Two costed scenarios to decide on the investment
  • Less exposure to mains supply shortages

VleviaMeat processing

Bringing a meat-cutting plant's effluent within permit limits

Vlevia cleans its beef-cutting workshop with about 30 m³ of water a day, loaded with fats, solids and organic matter, and its environmental permit no longer allowed direct discharge to the sewer. After characterising the wastewater, Revalio designed and commissioned a treatment unit in an insulated 20-foot container: a buffer tank for cleaning peaks, coagulation, flocculation and dissolved air flotation, and sludge storage. A PLC runs dosing and sludge removal, with remote monitoring through a web interface. The unit was running before the regulatory deadline.

  • Discharge within the environmental permit limits
  • Fats, oils and grease removed by flotation
  • Automated unit with remote monitoring

What customers say

“Implementing a smart metering solution has enabled us to improve the way we manage our water: we now have a real-time view of our consumption, which helps us to identify any deviations, spot any leaks, react quickly to save water and money.”
Antony Haubruge,Manager Utilities, facilities and sustainability, Zoetis
