Azulatis

Waste & CircularScope 3

Azulatis designs, builds, finances and operates on-site water installations for large industrial water users, so they can reuse their wastewater and tap local sources instead of mains water, under a Water-as-a-Service contract.

About Azulatis

Azulatis grew out of the industrial water branch of De Watergroep, the Flemish water company, and has operated as an independent company since 2023, building on a track record in industrial water that goes back to 2006. From its head office in Deerlijk and a satellite office in Aarschot, it serves some 50 customers in food and beverages, chemicals, agriculture, retail and logistics, healthcare and industrial production, among them AB InBev, Alpro, Cargill, Coca-Cola European Partners, Colruyt Group, Milcobel, PepsiCo and Puratos. Its offer covers custom water installations, the operation of water treatment plants, pilot and mobile units (its mobile water plant delivers up to 55 m³/h of potable-quality water at short notice), industrial pipelines and groundwater wells, and the takeover of existing installations, with leasing available. In June 2025 the listed infrastructure investor TINC took a 49% stake alongside De Watergroep to support further growth and innovation.

What Azulatis has delivered

AB InBevBrewing

Turning treated wastewater into drinking-quality process water at two breweries

At its Leuven and Jupille breweries, AB InBev works with Azulatis to give its purified wastewater a second life. Ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis convert it into process water of drinking water quality, so each brewery produces about 50 m³ of water per hour. Azulatis designed, built and financed both installations and operates them.

AlproFood

Reusing purified wastewater in plant-based food production

At Alpro's Wevelgem plant, Azulatis converts purified wastewater into process water of drinking water quality with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. The installation runs under a design, build, finance and operate contract and is set to grow from 720,000 to 930,000 m³ a year.

AgristoPotato processing

Treating river water from the Leie for a potato processor

For Agristo in Wielsbeke, Azulatis treats surface water from the Leie with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to produce low-mineralised drinking water and demineralised water. Azulatis also built the intake and discharge pipeline for the Wielsbeke and Heule sites.

RousselotFood ingredients

Using brackish canal water to relieve the public water network

Rousselot's Ghent plant draws its process water from local brackish canal water, which also relieves the public water network. Azulatis treats it with coagulation, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and demineralising reverse osmosis to produce demineralised drinking water and process water, under a design, build, finance and operate contract.

PuratosBakery ingredients

Upgrading an existing installation for water reuse

Puratos Lummen, which makes ingredients for bakers, pastry chefs and chocolatiers, asked Azulatis to optimise its water management. Azulatis built the business case, then designed, built, prefinanced and now operates the new installation: it drilled a groundwater well and extended the existing treatment with a membrane bioreactor, sand filter, softener, reverse osmosis and demineralising reverse osmosis. Puratos and Azulatis presented the project together at Aquatech Amsterdam.

Coca-Cola European PartnersSoft drinks

Running an existing wastewater treatment plant

At Coca-Cola European Partners in Ghent, Azulatis manages the existing biological wastewater treatment plant, with high-load and low-load stages, so the effluent can be safely discharged into surface water. Azulatis handles daily management and process monitoring and carries out optimisation projects.
