PlantC

Carbon RemovalAdvisory & Training

PlantC is a Belgian B Corp that designs and runs biodiversity and climate projects in Belgium: hedges, orchards, agroforestry, ponds and reforestation on farms, in forests and on company land. Companies can co-finance ready-to-fund projects, build a tailor-made programme or have their own site redesigned for nature.

About PlantC

PlantC was founded in 2020 by three partners: Aricia, a biologist with a doctorate in environmental management who leads on biodiversity, Lucas, a bioengineer who leads on strategy, and Romain, who leads on client experience and communication. The multidisciplinary team now also includes ecologists, a forester and a landscape architect, and works with a scientific and pragmatic approach from design to implementation and follow-up. PlantC works across Belgium, mostly in Wallonia, where most of the country's forests are, with farmers, foresters, public authorities, citizens and companies. To date it has financed 132 agricultural and forestry projects and 45 land projects, planted 246,209 trees and committed 21,634 tonnes of carbon. PlantC is a certified B Corp with a score of 110.9 points, is a member of The Shift and publishes an annual sustainability report. Companies that have worked with it include Trafic, Edenred, Safran Aero Boosters, Corman, Heidelberg Materials, Manitou Group and Groupe Comet, as well as the Les Ardentes festival.

What PlantC has delivered

TraficRetail

A hedge-planting programme across Belgian farms

Through its TakeCare sustainability programme, Belgian retailer Trafic supports large-scale hedge planting in Belgium to act for climate and biodiversity in its own country. Since 2022 it has co-financed projects such as 1,145 metres of hedges at the Ferme des Marnières, more than 2 km of hedges in Fleurus and an anti-erosion hedge in Vedrin, and a dedicated page reports how each planting evolves.

Biodiversity on two industrial sites

In 2019 Safran Aero Boosters set up a sustainable development department with three priorities, one of them more biodiversity on its production sites. At Milmort and Liers, it earned Natagora's Réseau Nature label with a first wave of works including a triple-row hedge and two ponds. PlantC then set up the management plan (weeding, watering in droughts, late mowing) and a second wave: three new connected ponds, more than 400 metres of triple-row hedge, two flower meadows and nesting and shelter features for birds, bats, insects, amphibians and reptiles. Information panels and a biodiversity workshop at the company's family day brought the project to staff.

Two ponds dug in under a month after the 2021 floods

Butter maker Corman lost one of its two production sites in the Vesdre valley floods of July 2021. While rebuilding, an employee Green Team proposed ponds on a little-used slope of the site, 200 metres from the river, and secured funding through the Walloon government's 'Biodiversité & Entreprises' call. Designed with Adalia and Natagora's local branch, the double pond had a tight deadline set by the call: PlantC dug it in less than a month, reused the excavated stones for rock piles, sowed native flowers and fitted a chestnut fence that keeps people safe while letting small wildlife through.

Hedges on Flemish farms

Edenred co-finances hedge projects on farms in Flanders, in Heers, Brakel, Gavere and Lokeren, including more than a kilometre of hedges at Hex Farm in Heers and honey and fodder hedges in Lokeren. Each project is followed on a dedicated Edenred page that reports how the plantings evolve.
