About PerPetum Energy

PerPetum Energy was founded in 2007 in East Flanders and is headquartered in Nazareth-De Pinte, near Ghent. It designs, finances, builds and operates on-site energy systems for energy-intensive industry and large energy users: solar, wind, battery storage, EV charging, power-to-heat and energy management, delivered as a service under long-term contracts. Its team of about 60 engineers, project managers, energy specialists and financial experts has built 1 GW of projects across Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Germany, with €240 million invested in its portfolio. Clients include Aperam, INEOS Inovyn, Carmeuse, Heidelberg Materials and Pairi Daiza. PerPetum holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, VCA and AQPV certifications. Since June 2026 the company has been led by CEO Nina Waffenschmidt, with founder Luc Leenknegt as chairman of the board.

What PerPetum Energy has delivered

Aperam GenkSteel & metals

Locking in electricity costs for a stainless steel plant

Aperam's stainless steel plant in Genk faced high electricity costs eroding its margins and ambitious decarbonisation targets, while it wanted to keep capital for its core industrial investments. PerPetum built a behind-the-meter energy hub combining rooftop, ground-mounted and carport solar with more than 80 EV charging points, steered with day-ahead forecasting to maximise self-consumption. PerPetum designed, financed, built and operates it as a service, off Aperam's balance sheet.

INEOS InovynChemicals

A 60 MWp solar park wired straight to a chemical plant

HELIOS is a ground-mounted solar park in Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, Wallonia, that supplies renewable electricity to the nearby INEOS Inovyn chemical production site through a dedicated 70 kV high-voltage line of about 1.6 km. PerPetum handled development, investment, construction and long-term operation, with guarantees on power delivery, performance and the commissioning schedule. It is one of the largest solar installations directly linked to an industrial site in Belgium.

Pairi DaizaLeisure

Timber solar carports over a zoo's car parks

Pairi Daiza, the zoo and botanical garden in Brugelette that welcomes over 2 million visitors a year, wanted to scale up its renewable energy without spoiling the park's look and while keeping the structure's own carbon footprint low. PerPetum built solar carports in two phases on an all-wood structure made from locally sourced timber, combined with battery storage and EV charging and managed to match production with visitor-driven consumption. PerPetum developed, financed, built and operates the installation.

Les Îlots BlandinEnergy production

Turning six former gravel pits into a floating solar plant

In Perthes (Haute-Marne, France), six former gravel extraction lakes now host one of Europe's largest floating solar plants, after six years of environmental permitting and anchoring engineering. PerPetum built the floating installation, with deep-water anchoring and mooring systems and a complementary 2 MW ground-mounted array, and runs its operation and maintenance. The floats also reduce evaporation and limit algae growth, and no productive land was used.

Vattenfall (Netterden Zand & Grind)Extraction

Floating solar covering half of a sand pit's power needs

At the Netterden Zand & Grind sand and gravel site in Gendringen (Netherlands), PerPetum developed a floating solar installation for Vattenfall on the extraction lake. It was Vattenfall's first floating solar project and lets the site generate about half of its annual electricity consumption on site.

Sagrex Quenast (Heidelberg Materials)Quarrying

Green power for a quarry through an on-site PPA

At the Sagrex quarry in Quenast (Rebecq), part of the Heidelberg Materials group, PerPetum developed a ground-mounted solar installation delivered A to Z under an on-site power purchase agreement. PerPetum handled development, financing, construction and long-term operation, so the quarry uses green electricity directly in its processes without upfront investment.
