Carbon reporting subsidies for non-profits – The STROOM Festival success story
In 2024, the Loterie Nationale launched the Eco-Coaching program, supporting non-profits (ASBLs) in their sustainability efforts. The same subsidies were available in 2025 for applications sent by March 7th.
As a leading climate strategy software, Tapio was an approved service provider, guiding non-profits through their carbon footprint calculations and reduction strategies through our platform. Thanks to this program, three organisations took a step in their sustainability journey in 2024 with Tapio. Below, we’ve gathered the experience of one of them, STROOM Festival, a nomadic classical music festival taking place in natural places.
Through this programme, non-profits can access climate strategy services, covering 90% of the invoice and up to €5,000 per organisation. With a total budget of €250,000, around fifty non-profits are expected to benefit from this initiative in 2025.
Success story – the STROOM Festival takes a step forward in its sustainability strategy
STROOM Festival is a nomadic classical music festival that takes place in nature, changing locations every year and even every day of the festival.
To protect the landscapes they visit, the organisers carefully select each site, prioritising sustainable materials, waste reduction, and locations with more responsible energy sources. STROOM also emphasizes choosing the right partners and suppliers (e.g., for their materials) in their sustainability strategy.
For its first two years, STROOM focused on making initial sustainability decisions. In 2024, STROOM wanted real data to back up a solid sustainability strategy, so it turned to Tapio and the Loterie Nationale to do a carbon report.
A carbon report as a tool to prioritise actions
STROOM expected its biggest sustainability challenges to be materials and waste management. But the data told a different story — visitor mobility was its main emission category, like many other festivals.
With this insight, they’ve made visitor mobility one of their focus for the next year, despite the challenge of having to organise a festival that is nomadic and not always reachable by public transport. Other than raising awareness among participants, STROOM will focus on proposing alternative transportation to cars. The goal will be to offer such an easy alternative that participants will have no choice but to take it.
Working with Tapio
Data collection can be a challenge the first time you do it. Despite this, STROOM Festival found in the Tapio team the right partner to answer all their questions and support them through the process. Next year, they will repeat the exercise to understand how their actions have a positive impact on their carbon footprint. In this context, the Eco-Coaching subsidy gave an even bigger incentive to start calculating their emissions last year.
